REAL LIFE WEDDING – A Vintage Summer
Lucinda and Rob planned the most wonderful early summer wedding at Rivervale Barn. Full of vintage-inspired decorations and lots of beautiful, elegant touches, this was a fabulous day where everyone enjoyed themselves.
Falling in love with Rivervale Barn
When Lucinda and Rob first visited Rivervale, the beauty of this Hampshire wedding venue made an instant impression on the couple:
“We quite simply fell in love with Rivervale from the moment we pulled up outside. Everything about the venue made us both know instantly that this was the place where we wanted to hold our civil wedding ceremony.”
It’s no surprise that Rivervale looked its best for Lucinda and Rob’s wedding because the bride and her maid of honour run Ether Events, a company that’s all about decorations and details.
“We went all out with our wedding decorations. For our table centrepieces, we chose birdcages full of flowers and these stood on top of wooden slices, surrounded by candles, jam jars full of flowers and there were lanterns all over the venue too.”
The couple also set out baskets of flip-flops for their guests along with fans and these touches were definitely appreciated on such a hot day.
Wedding day style
Lucinda and Rob looked absolutely amazing on their big day. Rob wore a fabulous Ted Baker suit in a stylish blue along with a pink tie and matching handkerchief and brown shoes, which finished his wedding day look.
“I wore a Mori Lee gown in light gold with ivory lace,” says Lucinda. “The dress actually came as a strapless design but a wonderful friend made me straps and these worked so well with the fitted style of the dress, which also had a slight fish tail and a long train.”
Lucinda accessorised her stunning gown with a cathedral length train in rose gold and shoes covered in crushed golden sequins.
A delicious wedding day
Lucinda and Rob knew from the outset that their wedding day should be fun and relaxing for their guests with lots of delicious food for everyone to enjoy. After a drinks reception that also featured plenty of canapes, guests sat down for the wedding breakfast in the Dining Barn.
“For our wedding breakfast, we had Scotch egg to start and this was followed by lamb that was served with seasonal vegetables and we finished with a mixed berry crumble.
There was more to enjoy during the evening reception too as Galloping Gourmet’s fire pit proved to be an enormous hit:
“Grandpa Sam, who’s 95, managed to eat two burgers from the fire pit, even after he’d polished off his wedding breakfast too. We all found this very funny because he’s absolutely tiny!”
Sometimes, it’s the thought of those that can’t be there on the wedding day that have a big impact and Lucinda and Rob’s day was no exception:
“We only wish that Grandpa John had been there to see us marry. He gave us my engagement ring as it had belonged to my Grandmother and he also bought my beautiful wedding dress. The thought of him made the day very emotional, particularly for my dad.”
Looking back on the wedding…
“The staff really stood out. Their attention to detail on the day was just incredible. We don’t have any regrets at all – everything was absolutely perfect.”
