Carly and Drystan weren’t interested in waiting to get married. Instead, the pair wanted to book their dream venue right away, securing a date for just a few months’ time at a unique wedding venue in Hampshire.

Everything in one place

The pair found everything they were looking for at Rivervale Barn. Not only was there availability for a wedding in eight months’ time, it also ticked every single one of their boxes. “It was close by, not far from the church we were getting married in and had accommodation for the two of us on the wedding night,” explains Carly. “We found it two months after we got engaged and can’t believe it had been right under our noses all the time,” she smiles.

Seasonal celebration

The late-availability wedding date happened to be 23rd December – and despite not originally planning to get married at Christmas, it was the perfect date. “We had a lot of friends travelling or living abroad at the time who were all coming home for Christmas,” explains Carly. “We didn’t opt for a festive theme though,” she adds. Instead, the pair styled the Barn in navy and gold, using midnight blue tablecloths, floating candles, gold snowflake confetti and white roses to decorate the tables.

Creative displays

The pair also made space for a variety of picture boards, displaying their favourite memories from over the years. “We had one board filled with photos from our engagement, another with photos of our wedding guests and a final board for all the guests who couldn’t make our day,” says Carly.

The perfect fit

Despite having just eight months to plan the big day, Carly opted for a custom made gown. “Emma Louise Custom-made Bridal was the best find of the wedding planning process,” smiles Carly. “I had visited some bridal boutiques with my Mum and couldn’t find anything that I liked. I knew that getting Emma to design my wedding dress was the right decision,” she explains. Each element of her wedding gown was custom designed to her needs. The silk satin complemented her fair skin and intricate details suited her figure perfectly. “One of my guests summed it up perfectly for me on the wedding day. She said: “That dress looks like it was made for you. It’s stunning”, smiles Carly.

That personal touch

Carly and Drystan’s special day began with a personal wedding ceremony at their local church. “Many of our guests said our ceremony was one of the most beautiful and personal ceremonies they had ever been to,” smiles Carly. The pair opted for carols instead of hymns and gave their pet dog a starring role as the ring bearer. “We just couldn’t trust the best man Mark to do the job properly,” laughs Carly.

Truly scrumptious

The couple ensured their wedding reception was one to remember with the Premium Food and Drink Package from Galloping Gourmet. “We sat down to an incredible wedding breakfast of scallops to start, fillet of beef for main and finally a trio of puddings,” says Carly. “It really was one of the most incredible meals that we have ever eaten. Friends and family still rave about it now.”

Taking the stage

Come evening, it was all about the music and dancing. A live band, Groovestone, took to the stage and the couple wowed their guests with not one but two first dances. “After dancing with Drystan, I had a first dance with my father and Drystan with his mother. I think our parents really enjoyed being included in that part of the day,” smiles Carly.

Carly’s top tip:

• Don’t worry if you are nervous on the morning of your wedding day. It’s perfectly natural and normal. I had never been so nervous in all my life!
